The world's natural resources are limited, and it is said that we will soon deplete these resources if we continue with mass production, mass consumption, and mass disposal. From the perspective of curbing global warming, we also need to reduce CO₂ emissions from waste incineration and methane emissions from landfills. In such a context, transitioning from a linear business model—where resources flow one way from extraction to disposal — to a circular business model that recovers, recycles, and reuses used materials will strengthen a company's competitiveness. In our Sustainability Policy, the Organo Group declares its aim to "realize a sustainable society for the future, together with our stakeholders." As one of our initiatives toward this goal, we have set "Promotion of the 3Rs" as a material issue and continue to promote waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.

Promotion of the 3Rs

The Organo Group has identified "Promotion of the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)" as a material issue, and has set "Volume of sludge reduced by applying Organo technology and products" as a KPI to measure our progress. Organo has developed technology that uses sensors and chemicals to reduce the volume of sludge generated in the manufacturing process. This KPI quantifies the volume of sludge reduction achieved through this technology. For waste generated by our own operations, we work with group companies to implement "thermal recycling" — a process that utilizes the thermal energy generated when incinerating ion exchange resin for power generation and as a heat source for cement calcination. We also promote initiatives such as reusing used functional materials and switching to recyclable packaging materials.
